Cougar Softball Camps
Assistant Coach Kat Ihlenburg
Coach Ihlenburg enters her 5th year at CofC. She is assistant director of camps. She works with the team on all aspects of the game.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
At the College of Charleston, Ihlenburg works primarily with the Cougars’ outfielders and helped guide the 2006 team to a .966 fielding percentage that tied for the lead in the Southern Conference and was just outside of ranking in the Top-50 in the NCAA National Rankings. That season, Charleston also tied for the lead in team batting with a .283 average.
“I have been very fortunate to have Kat with me for the past three years” said head coach Shelly Hoerner. “She has done a great job of making our defense one of our strengths. Her hard work and loyalty to me and our team is tremendous and continues to make our softball program more successful”.
During her tenure, Ihlenburg has also helped to guide CofC to a pair of second-place finishes in the Southern Conference and a narrow third-place finish in 2008. In each of those seasons, the Cougars have delivered at least 12 victories in conference.
Prior to joining the Cougars, Ihlenburg spent the 2005 season at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Ga. While there, she served as the first assistant on Christina Wilcoxson’s staff during the inaugural season of Eagle softball. Her primary responsibilities included developing the strength and conditioning programs, monitoring student-athletes academic progress and recruiting new student-athletes to the Reinhardt program.
During that first season, Reinhardt, which competes as a member of the National Athletic Interscholastic Association, compiled a 15-39 overall record but went 13-13 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Since that inaugural campaign, the Eagles have won 30 or more games each year, due in large part to the progress of the program during that first season.
While there, she also served as the Assistant Coordinator of Intercollegiate Athletics. Her duties included writing press releases for the athletic department website, distributing materials to members of the media, assisting with game day operations for 11 intercollegiate teams and planning the annual athletic banquet.
COLLEGIATE EXPERIENCE: BARRY UNIVERSITY
Collegiately, Ihlenburg played at Barry University, a Division II NCAA program located in Miami Shores, Florida. She was a four-year member of the Buccaneers softball team from 2000-04 under the guidance of current College of Charleston head coach, Shelly Hoerner. During that time, she was an integral part of back-to-back Sunshine State Conference championships in her sophomore and junior seasons as well as the 2002 team which placed fifth in the NCAA Division II College Softball World Series. In 2003, the Buccaneers continued their tremendous success as the program won a record 52 games.

Ihlenburg earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations in 2004 and is currently working towards her Master’s degree in Public Administration. Professionally, she is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
