Assistant Coach Kat McNamara

Kathleen “Kat” McNamara is currently in her second season with the College of Charleston softball program which finished in second place in the Southern Conference this past season.

McNamara works primarily with the outfielders and helped guide the Cougars to a .966 fielding percentage in 2006 which was tied for the league lead in the SoCon. The 2006 CofC squad also tied for first in the SoCon in team batting with a .283 average.

"I am very fortunate to have Kat back for a second year," said CofC head coach Shelly Hoerner. "She did a great job making our defense one of our strengths last year. Her hard work and loyalty to me and our team is tremendous and will only make our softball program more successful."

She came to Charleston after spending the 2005 season at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Ga. There she was the first assistant during the inaugural season of Reinhardt College softball and was responsible for developing strength and conditioning programs, monitoring student-athletes academic progress, and recruiting new student-athletes to the Reinhardt program.

While at Reinhardt McNamara was also the Assistant Coordinator of Intercollegiate Athletics. Her duties included writing press releases for athletic department to send to various media, assisting with game day preparations for 11 intercollegiate teams, updating the athletic website on a weekly basis, and planning the annual athletic banquet.

McNamara was a member of the Barry University softball team from 2000-04. She was a member of the Barry squad that one back-to-back Sunshine State Conference titles in 2002 and 2003. In 2002 she was a part of the Barry team that finished in fifth place at the NCAA Division II Championship. In 2003 she was a part of the Bucs squad that set a school record for wins in a season with 52.

McNamara received a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations in 2004 and is currently working on a Master’s degree in public administration. She is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as well.
